About CarCampSetup
CarCampSetup exists for one kind of camping: the kind where the car does the carrying. Drive-up campgrounds, family weekends, and nights spent sleeping in the back of an SUV. It is not a backpacking site, where every ounce matters, and it is not an overland build site, where the vehicle itself is the project.
What makes this site different?
Most car camping advice is a list of gear. We start from the numbers that decide the gear: the square feet a family actually needs in a tent, the quarts of cooler space a trip really takes once ice is included, the R-value a given overnight low calls for, and the cubic feet all of it takes up in the car. Our calculators do that math, and every recommendation on the site follows from it.
How do we choose products?
We research products from published manufacturer specifications, certifications, listing data and patterns in verified owner reviews. We do not claim to have tested products in person, and you will not find invented lab results here. Our full approach is on the methodology page.
