How we research
Every figure on this site is one of two kinds, and we try to say which. A standard is a published figure: a manufacturer's floor dimensions or BTU rating, the ASTM F3340 R-value scale, the energy content of propane. A convention is a widely used planning rule: 30 sq ft per adult for comfortable tent space, a 2:1 ice to contents ratio for long trips, 1.25 quarts of food per person per day.
Do you test the products?
No. We research products from published specifications, listing data, certifications and patterns across verified owner reviews. We never write that we tested, slept in or measured a product, because we did not. Where a listing does not state a spec, our pages do not invent one.
Where do prices come from?
Prices come from the Amazon listing at the time the page was built. They change often, so the listing is always the final word.
How do the calculators work?
Each calculator explains its own method on its page. The same code powers the calculator and every generated page that quotes it, so the tent size tables, cooler size tables and R-value tables can never disagree with the tools.
How do we pick tiers?
Every roundup gives a Beginner, Intermediate and Expert pick. Beginner is the lowest cost to a working setup. Intermediate is the buy-once choice. Expert is the performance ceiling, and we say plainly who should not buy it.
